34th CREATE project under construction

Ground has been broken on Phase III (construction phase) of the CREATE (Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency) Program’s 34th initiative, Project B1, “Canadian Pacific Crossover Upgrades.” Metra and Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) will upgrade signals and add several crossover tracks, principally within the Metra Milwaukee District West right-of-way.

Third-quarter revenue, net up at CP

Canadian Pacific Railway reported third-quarter adjusted diluted earnings per share of $2.90, up 6%, on revenue that was 3% higher at $1.6 billion.

CSX profit up 1% in 3Q

CSX Corp. on Oct. 17 reported third-quarter 2017 net earnings of $459 million, or 51 cents per share, up from $455 million, or 48 cents per share, in the same period last year. Excluding a $1 million restructuring charge, adjusted earnings per share remain at 51 cents.

Siemens invests in Wi-Tronix

Siemens has made a “significant strategic equity investment” in Wi-Tronix, a supplier of remote monitoring, video analytics, and predictive diagnostic systems for rail rolling stock and infrastructure and other industrial markets. The investment is equivalent to a minority interest in Wi-Tronix, which will continue to conduct business as a standalone, founder-led company out of its Bolingbrook, Ill., headquarters. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
