Bombardier’s TrackSafe wins innovation awards
Bombardier Transportation has won two international innovation awards for its TrackSafe technology designed to improve safety and productivity for railway track workers. Bombardier received one of 15 Innovation Awards presented by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) to companies across a wide variety of engineering and technology disciplines. The competition attracted 430 entries from 25 countries.

Senate passes Hurricane Sandy relief bill
The Senate Monday, in a 62-to-36 vote, approved an aid package totaling $51 billion for Hurricane Sandy victims, rejecting an amendment to require the relief be offset by cuts to other federal spending. President Obama is expected to sign the bill.
AREMA 2013 Scholarship Program announced
The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) Educational Foundation said Tuesday it is now accepting applications for the 2013 Scholarship Program. The deadline for applications is March 8, 2013.
House OKs hurricane funds; rail needs included
The House of Representatives late Tuesday approved at least $50 billion in relief aid for victims of Hurricane Sandy, including $5.4 billion for “Department of Transportation-Federal Transit Authority Emergency Relief.”
LIRR taps Axion for more ties
Axion International Holdings, Inc. producer of recycled plastic and plastic composite technologies, said it has received a purchase order from the Long Island Rail Road for additional Ecotrax rail ties, to be used “in various locations throughout Long Island.” The size of the order was not specified.
NJT: Pre-Sandy service levels to resume Jan. 14
New Jersey Transit Friday announced that as of Jan. 14, it “will restore service levels into New York to 100%, reflecting the agency’s ongoing Hurricane Sandy recovery and repair.”
