LIRR, NYCT boost service for All-Star Game

Two Metropolitan Transportation Authority properties, the Long Island Rail Road and MTA New York City Transit, are offering more train service to and from Citi Field in Queens, N.Y., as Major League Baseball’s New York Mets host the 2013 All-Star Game Tuesday, July 16.

LIRR’s Cannonball moving to Penn Station

New York media late Wednesday marveled over the planned return this summer of the sole “name” train on the Long Island Rail Road: The Cannnonball. More relevant to potential passengers is the venerable train’s reassigned western origin point: New York-Penn Station.

All’s quiet (sort of) beneath Grand Central

After two years and one month of blasting, New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced Tuesday that sandhogs working on the East Side Access project have concluded more than 2,400 controlled explosions under Grand Central Terminal in the building of two caverns 160 feet below the streets where eight tracks for Long Island Rail Road trains will be laid.

New York MTA gets $193 million in Sandy aid

LIRR taps Axion for more ties

Axion International Holdings, Inc. producer of recycled plastic and plastic composite technologies, said it has received a purchase order from the Long Island Rail Road for additional Ecotrax rail ties, to be used “in various locations throughout Long Island.” The size of the order was not specified.

New York MTA approves fare hike
