The Final Environmental Impact Statement for a proposed Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) expansion project has been issued following more than a year of data collection, analysis and public outreach.
Firms qualified to bid on LIRR third track
The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) on Feb. 2 announced the list of construction firms deemed qualified to bid on the LIRR Expansion Project.
$120 million improvements proposed for LIRR
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo on Jan. 10 unveiled a proposal to invest $120 million to provide enhancements to 16 Long Island Railroad (LIRR) stations and improve system connectivity with a new terminal at MacArthur Airport and a new stop at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Four proposals received for LIRR at Penn Station
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) announced that it has received four design proposals from qualified engineering firms for the modernization of the LIRR’s level in Penn Station as part of plans to transform Penn Station and the historic James A. Farley Post Office into a transportation hub.
$1.6 billion new train station for New York
In January 2016, Empire State Development, the New York MTA, Long Island Rail Road and Amtrak issued an RFP soliciting proposals for the comprehensive redevelopment of the historic midtown Farley Building, including a Train Hall and the surrounding office and retail space. The winners have now been announced.
Masabi launches mobile ticketing with New York’s MTA
Masabi announced on July 6th that its mobile ticketing technology is now live with New York’s MTA. Using Masabi’s JustRide mobile ticketing platform, riders on Metro North Railroad and Long Island Rail Road will be able to purchase tickets and travel using their smartphones as an all-in-one ticket vending machine and ticket.
Public input sought for LIRR triple-track project
In a bid to make good on a promise to promote community engagement for the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Expansion Project, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo laid out plans for public meetings, launched a new website and committed to expedited grade crossing improvements.
FRA to Congress: Most railroads will miss PTC deadline
The Federal Railroad Administration sent its Status of Positive Train Control Implementation report to Congress showing that after seven years and significant assistance from FRA, most railroads will miss the December 31, 2015 positive train control (PTC) implementation deadline that Congress established in 2008. The report, which was mandated by the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee, was sent to Congress on August 7.
New York MTA touts compliance with FRA safety advisory
As a result of work completed in March 2014 in response to the Federal Railroad Administration’s Emergency Order 29, the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North say they are in compliance with the recommendations made recently to all U.S. passenger railroads in FRA Safety Advisory 2015-03.
