Transit Briefs: Amtrak, DART, LA Metro, TriMet, Jacobs, Denver RTD

Amtrak debuts a new integration with Google to support more sustainable transportation choices. Also, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is named Agency of the Year by Latinos In Transit (LIT); LA Metro shares its Mobility Concept Plan for the 2028 Olympic games; TriMet approves a new labor contract with the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 757; the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) appoints Jacobs as the program management consultant for the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Station Improvements Project; and the Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) marks 30 years of light rail.

Caltrain releases its new schedule for electrified service. Also, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) boosts Regional Rail service; Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) reopens four Red Line stations; New Jersey Transit (NJT) launches the “Chance For Change” program; and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) expands a fare compliance pilot program and partners with a nationwide retailer on the free-fare student GoPass program.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) begins a second run of vehicle testing on the Silver Line Regional Rail alignment. Also, LA Metro ridership grows 8.2% in July; Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) begins the installation of a third set of Next Generation Fare Gates; the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (SCVTA) unveils a project microsite for the BART Phase II Extension Project; KC Streetcar begins test runs; and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) begins modernizing the streetcar power network on Queens Quay and Fleet Street.

LA Metro’s ridership continues its upward trend in June. Also, Express Mode on iPhone and Apple Watch is coming to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA); Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) will offer employers and other groups bulk transit passes at a reduced cost; Elevate Inglewood Partners (EIP) is selected as the Best Value Proposer for the Inglewood Transit Connector (ITC) project; and VIA Rail Canada (VIA Rail) collaborates with Hack Club for a cross-country train adventure.

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) celebrates a “massive” decrease in subway crime over the last four weeks. Also, Amtrak unveils a list of digital icons that the company will use in its messaging; and LA Metro’s “TAP to exit” program is helping to reduce violence on the agency’s system.

Light rail testing is under way on LA Metro’s Foothill Gold Line extension from Azusa to Pomona. Also, San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) now offers a Youth Opportunity Pass for teens to explore their hometown; and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) celebrates 60 years of improving communities through its Federal Transit Program.

The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) welcomes North America’s first self-powered, zero-emission passenger train to Southern California. Also, Denver’s Regional Transportation District (RTD) launches a new program to provide face-to-face assistance to customers; the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Board of Directors commits to funding a pilot program for electric trains; and LA Metro releases its Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (EIS/SEIR) for the Link Union Station Project (Link US).

NJ Transit cuts the ribbon on the fully renovated Elizabeth Station. Also, members of ATU Local 113 vote in favor of ratifying a new contract with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC); a Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) parking lot will soon transform into 62 affordable condominiums; the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) offers a new development opportunity in Washington, D.C.’s historic Deanwood neighborhood; and LA Metro joins Abode Communities to welcome families to new homes in Boyle Heights.

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) announces the return of streetcar service on St. Clair Avenue. Also, LA Metro ridership growth continues for the 18th consecutive month; and the third rail for the second operating segment of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation’s (HART) Skyline rail system is now energized.
