Biarri Rail, a Victoria, Australia-based global provider of planning and scheduling software for freight railroads, has landed a major North American contract with Kansas City Southern Railway (KCS) for Boss MP Loco, its cloud-based locomotive master planning software. The company has a U.S. office in Chicago led by CEO Tom Forbes.
The Association of American Railroads said U.S. rail traffic for the week ending Jan. 6 totaled 415,862 carloads and intermodal units, down 4.6% from the year-ago week.
Total U.S. rail traffic was 397,032 carloads and intermodal units for the week ending Dec. 30, down 6.8% compared with the same week in 2016, according to the Association of American Railroads.
The Association of American Railroads reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending Dec. 23 was 551,566 carloads and intermodal units, up 11% compared with the same week in 2016.

From Nov. 24 through Dec. 19, Kansas City Southern will be operating its annual Holiday Express train, which will stop in 22 communities in six states on 26 dates. This will be the 17th annual excursion for the train, which will be led by KCS’ iconic Southern Belle business train.
Traffic on U.S. railroads totaled 486,474 carloads and intermodal units, up 0.8% compared with the same week in 2016.
Total U.S. rail traffic was 534,140 carloads and intermodal units for the week ending Sept. 2, down 0.9% from the same week a year ago.
