DOJ to STB: ‘Protect Rail Competition’ (UPDATED)

The U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Antitrust Division on Jan. 24 reaffirmed its “support for the [Surface Transportation] Board’s review process and careful scrutiny of the competitive implications of the proposed transaction” that would merge Canadian Pacific (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS). The railroads respond.

Launched by all seven Class I railroads and Railinc in 2014, the AskRail app for first responders now includes railroad milepost and highway/rail grade crossing location information.

KCS Holiday Express Raises More Than $215,000

Kansas City Southern (KCS) announced Dec. 19 that its 22nd KCS Holiday Express program raised more than $215,000 to benefit The Salvation Army in 20 communities across eight states where the train, after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, stopped, welcoming almost 48,000 visitors.

KCS’s Shreveport Operation Receives ISO Certification

Kansas City Southern (KCS) on Dec. 13 announced that its Shreveport, La. Operation has received International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification for 14001 (Environmental) and 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety).
