KCS improving New Orleans Sub

Kansas City Southern Railway is investing approximately $14.3 million this year on construction and improvement projects on its New Orleans Subdivision between Port Allen and Simmesport, La., and also at Norco, La., near New Orleans.

For KCS, a challenging third quarter

Kansas City Southern (KCS) reported third-quarter 2016 revenues of $605 million, a decrease of 4% from third-quarter 2015, in what management is describing as a very challenging period.

KCS increasing speed in Mississippi

Kansas City Southern announced October 17 that train speed on 2.5 miles of track between Martin Luther King Street and Highway 90 in Gulfport, Miss. will increase from 10 to 20 miles per hour.

KCS opens transload terminal in Dallas with Watco

Kansas City Southern announced Oct. 6 that its U.S. subsidiary, The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR), has opened a new, multi-commodity transload terminal at its former Zacha intermodal terminal in Dallas, Texas. KCSR has named Watco Transloading, L.L.C. (Watco) as its operator for the facility, effective October 17, 2016.

Ottensmeyer succeeds Starling as KCS CEO

KCS promotes Songer to Executive VP, COO

Kansas City Southern (KCS) announced March 11, 2016 the promotion of Jeffrey M. Songer from Senior Vice President Engineering and Chief Transportation Officer to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In addition to his responsibilities for transportation and engineering, he is now also responsible for the mechanical function. Songer reports to KCS President Patrick J. Ottensmeyer.

Kansas City Southern subsidiary Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR) will invest approximately $5.6 million in 2016 in construction and improvement projects on its Shreveport Terminal Subdivision.

KCS reports difficult fourth quarter

Kansas City Southern (KCS) on Jan. 22, 2016 reported fourth-quarter 2015 revenues of $598 million, a decrease of 7% from fourth-quarter 2014. Overall, carload volumes were 2% lower than in fourth-quarter 2014. Excluding the estimated impacts of Mexican peso depreciation and lower U.S. fuel prices, revenue was flat compared to the fourth quarter of 2014.
