From Nov. 24 through Dec. 19, Kansas City Southern will be operating its annual Holiday Express train, which will stop in 22 communities in six states on 26 dates. This will be the 17th annual excursion for the train, which will be led by KCS’ iconic Southern Belle business train.
Total U.S. rail traffic was 534,140 carloads and intermodal units for the week ending Sept. 2, down 0.9% from the same week a year ago.
Intermodal traffic again outpaced overall rail freight for the week ending August 26 as imports flowed in for the retail holiday season, according to the Association of American Railroads.
Kansas City Southern (KCS) and Bulkmatic Transport Company (Bulkmatic)—the former once again reaffirming the importance of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)—intend to form a 50/50 joint venture to “facilitate and expand the exportation of liquid fuels from the U.S. to Mexico.” The project will include construction of a unit train liquid fuels terminal located in Salinas Victoria near Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, and served by Kansas City Southern de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (KCSM).

More than 20 years after Kansas City Southern helped lay the foundation for seamless U.S.-Mexico rail freight movements when it won the concession to operate Mexico’s principal rail corridor, KCS helped dedicate a new, joint Unified Cargo Processing facility at the Laredo, Tex., railroad border crossing.
Total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 548,790 carloads and intermodal units for the week ending August 12, up 2.75% compared with the same week in 2016.
The Association of American Railroads said U.S. rail traffic for the week ending Aug. 5, 2017 totaled 554,822 carloads and intermodal units, up 4.3% compared with the same week a year ago.

Kansas City Southern announced the appointments of Ginger Adamiak as vice president, sales and marketing for the energy and short line relations business unit, and Darin Selby as vice president intermodal operations.
