Cast your vote for one of three exterior graphic designs for Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) new 8000-series Hitachi Rail cars. Also, Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) installs more than 700 digital displays networkwide for real-time train and bus alerts; and Denver (Colo.) Regional Transit District (RTD) boosts by 500% rail-system fare checks as part of its security plan.

The 11-mile initial operating segment of Honolulu’s planned 20-mile, 21-station autonomous (driverless) Skyline, an urban rail transit GoA4 (Grade of Automation) system, marked one year of revenue service on June 30, 2024. The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) will temporarily shut down Skyline to accommodate testing of the autonomous rail system’s second operating segment. Also, NC By Train—North Carolina-supported Amtrak service—achieved record ridership in 2024, the third year in a row.

HART Takes Delivery of Final Trainset, $125MM in Federal Funding

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) on April 24 received $125 million from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) under an amended Full Funding Grant Agreement, plus its final four-car trainset from Hitachi Rail for Skyline, the first urban rail transit GoA4 (Grade of Automation) system in operation in the United States.
