January boxes surge at Port of Savannah

Containerized trade through the Port of Savannah grew 16.2% to 331,468 TEUs in January, a record month for tonnage, and another sign of strengthening box growth in the new year at U.S. ports.

Savannah rail projects FASTer to intermodal

The Georgia Ports Authority announced on July 6 it has received a $44 million Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to increase rail capacity at the Port of Savannah.

GPA achieves record intermodal traffic in FY2015

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) saw the highest-ever volume of intermodal rail moves in Fiscal Year 2015 with the Port of Savannah having moved 369,347 containers by rail in FY2015, up from the previous year record of 332,996 containers set in FY2014, the authority announced on July 27, 2015. The growing volumes moved by rail resulted in an increase of 10.9% or 36,351 containers for the year.
