CP to sell DM&E right-of-way to GWI

Canadian Pacific and Genesee & Wyoming, Inc., in a joint announcement Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, said they had “executed an agreement pursuant to which CP will sell the west end of its Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern (DM&E) line to G&W for continued rail operations.”

GWI marks gains in October traffic

Darien, Conn.-based Genesee & Wyoming said Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 its October traffic volume rose 104.2% compared with its comparable traffic one year ago, and up 6.3% from October 2012 when traffic from RailAmerica lines are factored. GWI assumed control of RailAmerica rail lines late last year.

Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway CBR train derails, explodes

A 90-car Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway CBR (crude by rail) train derailed and exploded in a rural area of western Alabama early on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, leaving 26 cars burning. Thirty cars derailed or were damaged. The main line was expected to be out of service for about a week.

GWI posts 3Q profit

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, reported third-quarter earnings of $65.7 million, or $1.16 per diluted share, compared with a loss of $19.6 million, or 47 cents a share, in the third quarter of 2012.

Central Oregon & Pacific receives TIGER grant

The U.S. Department of Transportation, through the Federal Railroad Administration, has awarded a $7 million TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant to the State of Oregon to support a $9.4 million project that will rehabilitate and reopen a 296-mile stretch of the Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad (a Genesee & Wyoming property).

GWI marks 1Q earnings, new headquarters

Genesee & Wyoming, Inc. Wednesday reported first-quarter net income of $82.7 million, compared with net income of $22.2 million in the first quarter of 2012. Excluding the impact of certain significant items discussed below, G&W’s adjusted net income in the first quarter of 2013 was $48.9 million, compared with adjusted net income of $25.0 million in the first quarter of 2012, the company said.
