GE to supply 1,000 locomotives to Indian Railways

GE Transportation announced Nov. 9, 2015 that it received a Letter of Award from India’s Ministry of Railways for a locomotive supply and maintenance contract worth approximately $2.6 billion over 11 years to supply Indian Railways with 1,000 diesel-electric locomotives. “The deal advances the ‘Make in India’ initiative and reinforces India’s position as a global manufacturing destination,” GE said.

Jamie Miller named new president and CEO of GE Transportation

GE has appointed Jamie Miller as president and CEO of GE Transportation, the company announced Sept. 14, 2015. Miller succeeds Russell Stokes, who will lead GE’s Energy Management business, effective Oct. 1.

GE Transportation completes first production test of Tier 4 engine

GE Transportation has completed the first production test, which evaluates the performance, emissions and mechanical properties, of its GE Evolution Series Tier 4 engine. This is the first engine to go through GE’s newly built test cell in Grove City, Penn., which produces approximately 3,000-plus engines a year. It will be sent to one of GE’s locomotive assembly facilities to be installed into a GE Evolution Series Tier 4 locomotive, the company said.

GE delivers Roy Hill locomotives to Australia

The chairman of Australian mining company Hancock Prospecting Pty. Ltd., Gina Rhinehart, marked the delivery of the locomotive fleet for the new Roy Hill heavy-haul railway in Western Australia’s Pilbara region on March 23, when she named the first unit Ginny in a ceremony at Port Hedland.

Transnet financing aids big locomotive buy

South Africa’s Transnet said Monday, March 2, 2015 it has concluded financing to acquire 1,064 locomotives, estimated to cost $4.3 billion, for its Transnet Freight Rail subsidiary, which were ordered from four suppliers one year ago.
