Sacramento LRT extension set to open

California’s state capital, Sacramento, will add 1.1 miles of light rail transit to its expanding LRT system Friday, with the opening of a Green Line extension from the existing station at H and 13th streets to Richards Boulevard.

New Jersey Gov. Christie cancels ARC tunnel project

New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie (pictured), who put the Access to the Region’s Core Trans-Hudson Express commuter rail tunnel on a 30-day hold last month, on Thursday canceled the project outright, asserting that its cost had spiraled from an estimated $8.7 billion into the $11 billion to $14 billion range.

Study committee backs streetcar for Milwaukee

Efforts to establish streetcar or light rail service in Wisconsin’s largest city, stymied for years by state and county opposition, got a boost Thursday when a Milwaukee study committee, in a 3-1 vote, approved preliminary engineering on a $95.8 million streetcar for downtown.
