Also, California’s San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and North County Transit District (NCTD) introduce Express Mode tap-and-go fare payment; Seattle’s Sound Transit pilots “wig wag train” to boost light rail safety; planning advances for the Coastal Link commuter rail corridor’s first proposed segment connecting Miami-Dade with Broward and Palm Beach counties in Florida.

Brightline partners with Porter Airlines to offer travelers a special promotion. Also, Central Florida municipalities are now paying for SunRail operations; Calgary releases its preferred route for the proposed Calgary Airport Rail Connection; and Premier Doug Ford directs Metrolinx to study expanding GO Transit service along the Kitchner and Milton lines by diverting freight rail lines.

Florida Awarded $18MM to Increase Supply Chain Capacity

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Sept. 20 announced the award of $18 million in funding to invest in Florida’s supply chain and “boost aggregate storage for critical infrastructure and asphalt and concrete production.” These awards are the first of $100 million to be invested over five years.

Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor (NEC) track infrastructure investments are up 109% for summer 2024. Also, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) eyes public transit and mixed-use development at the Alewife Station complex; SunRail launches its 17th commuter rail station in central Florida; and Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) welcomes applications for a new competitive Online Transit Safety Pledge Grant.

MARTA has received $1.75 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to stand up a transit and TOD “accelerator” that it says will “close capital funding gaps for projects across the region.”

Also, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) provides new details on SunRail’s proposed extension; Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) restores streetcar service to Humber Loop; and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) opens a new Integrated Command and Communications Center.
