Chicago order fuels 126% growth for China’s CRRC

First, in 2014, a $567 million system-wide car order for Boston’s MBTA.  Then,  this year, the largest single purchase of rapid transit cars in Chicago history, valued at $1.31 billion. Together, the contracts built momentum for China’s CRRC to more than double orders from outside China in the first half of this year, according to a financial release filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange on Aug. 23, 2016.

CTA’s Ventra app wins APTA Innovation Award

In the largest single purchase of rapid transit cars in Chicago history, the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) on March 9, 2016 awarded a $1.31 billion contract to China-based CSR Sifang America Joint Venture for 846 7000 Series cars. CTA will initially purchase a base $632 million order of 400 cars, with options to purchase the remainder in coming years.

Cubic launches Ventra mobile app for CTA, Metra and Pace

Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), a business unit of Cubic Corp., on Nov. 19, 2015 released the Ventra Mobile App for Chicago Transit Authority rapid transit, Metra regional/commuter rail and Pace suburban bus riders. The “one-stop” mobile app gives transit riders the ability to plan, manage and pay for their journeys for each of the region’s agencies.

Chicago taps Cubic for regional transit mobile app

Chicago area transit agencies Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra, and suburban bus operator Pace have awarded Cubic Transportation Systems a contract to supply an integrated, smart phone-based system supporting a variety of mobile ticketing, mobile top up, and contactless mobile payment applications using Near Field Communication (NFC), account management, and advanced trip planning technologies that incorporate all three regional agencies.

CTA to overhaul 3200-series cars

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has awarded $92 million worth of contracts to unnamed suppliers for the materials needed to overhaul the agency’s second-oldest railcars, the 3200-series, as part of a major modernization of its rail and bus fleets launched in 2012. CTA will overhaul the cars in-house.
