Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) seeks proposals to finance new BEMU (battery-electric multiple-unit) trainsets for its Commuter Rail system. Also, Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) invests in workforce development through a “land-for-learning” agreement with City Colleges of Chicago; and another San Diego-Los Angeles roundtrip will be added to Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, restoring more pre-pandemic service.

Reports: Lawmakers Introduce Bill to Replace Chicago RTA (UPDATED 6/2)

Illinois lawmakers on May 28 unveiled a bill that proposes to replace the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), which oversees the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra commuter rail, and Pace suburban buses, with a new organization called the Northern Illinois Transit Authority, according to multiple news reports.

Amtrak extends Empire Service between Albany and New York City. Also, the Chicago Plan Commission adopts the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) 95th Street Corridor Plan for equitable transit-oriented development (ETOD); and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) will issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) this fall for a new operator of its Commuter Rail system.

Also, the Maryland Transit Administration’s (MTA) multi-billion-dollar economic impact is unveiled in a Greater Washington Partnership report; Metra approves an $8.7 million contract for the rehabilitation of 115th Street/Morgan Park Station; and the Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) breaks ground on the future Dos Rios Station on the Blue Line.
