CSX has opened its new Valleyfield Intermodal Terminal in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield near Montreal, Quebec, expanding the railroad’s intermodal network capacity and offering Canadian customers domestic and international service that connects with the its 21,000 mile U.S. network.

The Association of American Railroads has bestowed its highest environmental honor, the John H. Chafee Environmental Excellence Award, on Chris Durden, of CSX Intermodal Terminals.

CSX affiliate Evansville Western Railway has begun operations at CSX Intermodal Terminals Inc.’s new Central Florida Intermodal Logistics Center (ILC) intermodal terminal in Winter Haven, Fla.

“A combination of macro forces and strategic investments propelled CSX to strong performance despite the challenging external environment, including the slowly recovering economy and transformation in the energy markets. The company now enjoys the most diverse portfolio in its history, as growth in the merchandise and intermodal businesses help to offset declining coal revenue.”

CSX Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Fredrik Eliasson, in a presentation at the Baird Industrials Conference in Chicago, said that intermodal, “a key driver of growth,’’ now represents 40% of CSX’s overall volume and is expected to increase further, reflecting “the attractive economic value of converting freight from highway to rail.”

Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx visited CSX’s Northwest Ohio Intermodal Terminal in Wood County on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013. The event was Biden’s most recent stop on a tour focused on the importance of infrastructure investment following visits to the Ports of Baltimore, Savannah, and Charleston.

CSXT Intermodal recently launched a new website that showcases the value of intermodal rail in today’s supply chains through videos and interactive tools.
