Howard Street Tunnel Expansion Project Launches

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan led public- and private-sector leaders in breaking ground on the $466 million Howard Street Tunnel expansion project, which will reconstruct the 126-year-old freight rail tunnel to accommodate double-stack container trains to and from the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore.

STB Eyes Private Railcar Rulemaking

Port of Virginia Advances Rail Capacity Expansion Project

The Port of Virginia by 2023 will double the size of the Central Rail Yard at Norfolk International Terminals (NIT), allowing the port to handle 1.1 million containers per year via rail.

CSX Christens CCX

CSX’s new Carolina Connector (CCX) intermodal terminal, located northeast of Raleigh, N.C. and described as “one of the most technologically advanced facilities on the CSX network, is now open. CSX says the terminal “will help relieve port and highway congestion by adding rail-to-truck transfer capacity for domestic and international container shipments.”

CSX to STB: ‘Committed to Overcoming Supply Chain Challenges’

CSX President and CEO Jim Foote on Nov. 2 responded to Surface Transportation Board Chairman Martin Oberman’s Oct. 18 request for information about service problems, as evidenced by what STB characterized as numerous customer complaints. “Your letter referenced anecdotal service incidents, service metrics and employee figures,” Foote replied. He then went on to provide “an update on the current state of CSX’s network and our plans looking ahead to meet our customer’s needs.”
