R.J. Corman to Launch RFCC

With the purchase of a 43-mile railroad branch and the leasing of a 20-mile branch from Norfolk Southern (NS), R.J. Corman Railroad Company is launching the Raleigh and Fayetteville Railroad, LLC (RFCC), its 19th short line.

Cindy Sanborn will remain as NS EVP and COO through the end of 2022.

Norfolk Southern (NS) Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Cindy Sanborn will pass the throttle to Paul Duncan on Jan. 1, 2023, the Class I railroad reported Nov. 14.

STB to Amtrak, CSX, NS, Port: Procedural Schedule Amended (UPDATED Nov. 11)

The Surface Transportation Board (STB) on Nov. 10 granted a joint motion to amend the procedural schedule of its decision on the dispute between Amtrak on one side and CSX, Norfolk Southern (NS), and the Alabama State Port Authority and its Terminal Railway Alabama State Docks division (collectively, the Port) on the other for Gulf Coast passenger rail service. The Board had previously granted an extension to Dec. 1 of mediation.

The NCDOT, Union County and CSX held a groundbreaking last month for a project in Waxhaw, N.C., that includes siding and bridge construction as well as an at-grade crossing closure.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), CSX and Union County, N.C., have launched a rail safety improvement project in Waxhaw. Also, CN hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Conneaut Creek Dredge Reclamation Facility in Ohio.

STB to Class I’s: Continue ‘Performance Reporting’

The Surface Transportation Board (STB) on Oct. 28 ordered all Class I railroads to submit weekly performance and monthly employment data for six additional months, until May 5, 2023. BNSF, CSX, Norfolk Southern (NS) and Union Pacific (UP) must also submit biweekly service progress reports for another six months as well as an interim update, due Dec. 2, 2022, that covers performance and labor force targets and any service recovery plan modifications.

The Forest Hill Flyover project will construct a bridge to eliminate conflicts between train movements.

Officials broke ground on Oct. 25 on the largest CREATE project to date, The Forest Hill Flyover (P3), at CSX Forest Hill Railroad Yard.

HCPHC Unveils RESTORE Dock at Port Bienville

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, U.S. Congressman Steven Palazzao, local officials and industry representatives joined on Oct. 12 at Port Bienville Industrial Park in Bay St. Louis, Miss., to cut the ribbon on a new maritime dock and railroad facility, known as the RESTORE DOCK, which will be used to move about 480,000 tons of material across Port Bienville’s public and private docks each year.
