Central South Carolina Megasite Receives ‘CSX Select Site’ Designation

CSX on Jan. 4 announced, along with the Central South Carolina (SC) Alliance, that the 1,426-acre Central South Carolina Megasite in Lugoff, S.C., has been designated a CSX Select Site, a “development-ready property along the CSX network where standard land use consideration and comprehensive due diligence items have been previously addressed.”

AIHA Announces Free Resources to Protect Rail Worker Health, Safety

The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), the association for scientists and professionals “committed to preserving and ensuring occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) in the workplace and community,” announced Nov. 8 the availability of free resources to support rail operators in reducing health risks associated with work conducted on railroads.

CSX Updates Attendance Policy

CSX will implement a revised Attendance Policy, effective January 1, 2023, to “provide CSX employees a more flexible policy and respond to concerns expressed by craft employees and labor organizations,” the Class I recently announced.

For Georgia-Pacific, a New $425MM Tennessee Plant (UPDATED)

Georgia-Pacific is investing more than $425 million in a new Dixie® paper products plant in Jackson, Tenn., to be served by CSX.

FTA earlier this month asked MBTA to revise and resubmit 12 corrective action plans “pertaining to hiring challenges, safety procedures and rail transit operations,” according to a Dec. 8 Sentinel & Enterprise report.

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has asked Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) to resubmit 12 corrective action plans addressing required safety improvements. Also, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANY/NJ) has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to replace AirTrain Newark with a new 2.5-mile elevated guideway train system; San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) will offer Central Subway system riders wireless connectivity; Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) and the Small Business Administration (SBA) form a strategic alliance; Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) and Amtrak celebrated 10 years of service between Norfolk and Washington, D.C.; and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) long-awaited Potomac Yard Station is slated to open in May 2023.

CSX, KCS, NS, UP Ranked Among ‘America’s Most Responsible Companies’

CSX, Kansas City Southern (KCS), Norfolk Southern (NS), and Union Pacific (UP) have earned spots on Newsweek magazine’s fourth-annual list of America’s Most Responsible Companies.

The 133-year-old Merchants Bridge, which spans the Mississippi River at St. Louis and links Missouri and Illinois, officially reopened to rail traffic Sept. 15, following completion of a $222 million replacement project.
