CSX J&L Tunnel project honored

CSX’s J&L Tunnel Modification Project in Pittsburgh has won the Project of the Year Award from the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania (ESWP) and the Diamond Award for Engineering Excellence from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA). “These awards recognize the J&L Tunnel Project’s safe completion, sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and community benefits,” CSX said.

CSX, David Ragan, Front Row Motorsports re-team for 2014 Sprint Cup season

After a successful season promoting public safety around railroad tracks with David Ragan in 2013, CSX will again partner with the race-winning driver and the Front Row Motorsports’ No. 34 team for the NASCAR 2014 Sprint Cup Series season. The partnership will include primary sponsorship of Ragan’s Ford Fusion for four races—at Daytona International Speedway Feb. 23, Darlington Raceway April 12, Michigan International Speedway Aug. 17, and Richmond International Raceway Sept. 6. Ragan’s car will once again sport CSX’s distinctive blue and gold locomotive colors and “Play It Safe Around Railroad Tracks” graphics.

NJ House rep seeks more rail oversight

Rep. Robert E. Andrews (D-N.J.) has introduced a bill calling for independent oversight of railroads and particularly railroad infrastructure, arguing that U.S. freight railroads aren’t pursuing adequate safety measures.

William “Bill” Barringer, director of grade crossing safety at Norfolk Southern, has been named chairman of Operation Lifesaver’s 14-member board of directors. Barringer succeeds Cliff Stayton, director of hazardous materials programs at CSX Transportation.

GE, CSX partner to advance LNG locomotives

CSX Corp. and GE Transportation announced an agreement Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, to explore emissions-cutting and efficiency breakthroughs in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) technology for locomotives, beginning with a pilot program next year.

CSX CFO outlines railroad’s intermodal strategy

Biden, Foxx visit CSX Northwest Ohio Intermodal Terminal

Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx visited CSX’s Northwest Ohio Intermodal Terminal in Wood County on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013. The event was Biden’s most recent stop on a tour focused on the importance of infrastructure investment following visits to the Ports of Baltimore, Savannah, and Charleston.

CSX’s Adkins wins AAR Environmental Excellence Award

The Association of American Railroads has awarded its highest honor for environmental professionals, the 2013 North American Environmental Employee Excellence Award, to CSX Manager of Environmental Remediation Matthew Adkins.
