Amtrak, CSX, UP Earn Spots on Disability Equality Index

Amtrak, CSX and Union Pacific (UP) have each been recognized as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and nonprofit Disability:IN, achieving high scores on the 2022 Disability Equality Index® (DEI).

For 2022, CSX Targeting ‘Double-Digit’ Revenue, Operating Income Growth (UPDATED, Cowen)

“Though volatile commodity prices and persistent inflation have added uncertainty to the economy, our efforts remain focused on adding the resources needed to deliver improvements in our network performance, lift customer satisfaction and develop new rail service solutions to drive meaningful growth over the long term,” reported James M. Foote, President and CEO of CSX, during the Class I railroad’s July 20 release of second-quarter 2022 financials, which included net earnings and volumes that were flat with the previous-year period.

Steve McCullough, Jim Dinell and Mike Tait have transitioned to new roles at AllTranstek, LLC, a North American third-party, non-asset-based rail fleet management provider. Also, CSX’s Arthur Adams and Norfolk Southern’s (NS) D’Andrae C. Larry have earned spots on Savoy magazine’s 2022 list of Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America; and the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has appointed two Co-Chairs for its Blue-Ribbon Panel to combat fare and toll evasion.

Time Out: Preparing for Round 9

The battle over Amtrak’s proposal to run two daily round trips between Mobile and New Orleans is far from over. It is about to heat up again after a two-month lull, but the STB announced on July 11 that the relative calm (at least as far as the public will notice) will last a little longer.

CN and Canadian Pacific (CP) have earned spots on the Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada list for 2022. Also, care packages from CSX, in partnership with Operation Gratitude, are headed to U.S. active-duty service members in Eastern Europe; and Newburgh & South Shore Railroad (NSR), a managed affiliate of OmniTRAX, presented a community donation to a Cleveland, Ohio-area fire department in honor of Charter Steel.

Analysis: ‘Big 4’ Revised STB Service Recovery Plans

The four largest U.S. freight railroad companies—BNSF, CSX, Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific—all reported, per the request of the Surface Transportation Board, supplemental information about their efforts to improve service and network fluidity. This is, of course part, of an ongoing STB service investigation with public hearings held back on April 26 and 27 of this year.
