Months before his previously announced official retirement as CEO, Hunter Harrison has abruptly severed all ties with Canadian Pacific, handing the company’s reins to President Keith Creel. According to numerous reports, Harrison will attempt to take control of CSX, which in 2014 had rebuffed a merger attempt by CP.

CSX Executive Vice President and Chief Sales & Marketing Officer Fredrik Eliasson announced November 8 the promotion of Michael Rutherford to Vice President-Industrial Products, effective immediately.

CSX restoration update for the Carolinas

CSX updated its restoration efforts post-Hurricance Matthew. Normal train operations have resumed to Savannah, Ga., Charleston, S.C. and Portsmouth, Va. The main line from Hamlet, N.C. to Charleston was next to resume.

CSX third quarter: “Strong cost performance”

Citing “macroeconomic and energy headwinds impacting most markets,” CSX posted third-quarter 2016 net earnings of $455 million, or $0.48 per share, down from $507 million, or $0.52 per share, in the same period last year, and a 69.0% operating ratio, year-over-year 70 basis points increase.

CSX’s Hurricane Action Plan

After Hurricane Katrina, CSX decentralized its dispatching operations to the individual divisions.  Now for Hurricane Matthew, the company, headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla., watches closely whether the storm makes an unprecedented curve back to Florida.
