Tierney Joins HNTB

Veteran freight railroad operating executive Tim Tierney, P.E., has joined HNTB as a Senior Project Director and Rail Industry Technical Advisor, a role in which he “will leverage his wealth of experience in the rail and freight logistics industry to advise clients on various large scale railroad operations, design and construction projects.”

Court orders BMWED remain in national handling

The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division of the Teamsters Rail Conference (BMWED) was rebuffed by a federal district court March 30 in an attempt to sever itself from multi-employer contract negotiations (national handling) in this current round of wage, benefits and work rules negotiations.

Richard B. Hasselman, 1926-2021

Richard B. “Dick” Hasselman, former Senior Vice President-Operations, Conrail, died peacefully at Oceanside, Calif. on Dec. 5, 2021 at the age of 95.

Gorton Returns to Conrail as President, COO

Brian E. Gorton, who began his career in 1987 as a Conrail conductor, has returned to his “home railroad” as President and Chief Operating Officer. He succeeds Timothy C. Tierney, who is retiring after nearly 43 years in the railroad industry.
