MTA seeks $106 billion over 20 years

New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority seeks to continue upgrading its rail infrastructure – along with other public transit – by requesting $106 billion during the next 20 years.

SMART segment gets Small Starts designation

New York’s Metropolitan Transporation Authority has appointed six people to a Blue Ribbon Panel to study the causes of rail accidents and incidents, including the major derailment last May on Metro-North’s New Haven Line and several train-car accidents on the Long Island Rail Road.

Ruddell to step down from The T

Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) President and Executive Director Dick Ruddell has announced his retirement at day’s end Oct. 4, 2013. Ruddell made the announcement Monday, Sept. 16, during a meeting of the The T’s Board of Directors.

MTA taps Kawasaki for M-9 railcar order

Kawasaki Rail Car, Inc. has been awarded a $1.8 billion contract by New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority to supply an initial order of 92 M-9 married-pair electric multiple-unit (EMU) cars to the Long Island Rail Road. The contract also covers additional anticipated deliveries of 584 M-9s for both LIRR and sister Metro-North Railroad.
