New York MTA facing $12 billion capital shortfall

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which accounts for approximately 25% of all rail transit spending in the U.S., is staring at a potential $12 billion shortfall in its proposed 2014-2019 capital plan, according to New York State Controller Thomas DiNapoli.

TfL extends fare collection contract with Cubic

Transport for London (TfL) has awarded Cubic Corp.’s UK subsidiary Cubic Transportation Systems Ltd. a contract worth more than $700 million (U.S.) for the Electra ticketing and fare collection system. The contract is a continuation of the partnership between TfL and Cubic, which has seen the introduction and network-wide rollout of the Oyster contactless smartcard.
