New Jersey Transit Monday resumed morning service on its Gladstone Branch, located in north-central New Jersey, five weeks after the line suffered extensive damage inflicted by Hurricane Sandy.

NCTD, Marines eye Coaster Camp Pendleton stop

Railway Age erroneously reported North County Transit District and the U.S. Marine Corps were advancing a plan to extend Sprinter diesel light railway transit (DLRT) service to Camp Pendleton, Calif. In fact, NCTD seeks to add a Coaster regional rail stop to serve the base.

NCTD salutes U.S. military

Southern California’s North County Transit District, which operates the Oceanside-San Diego Coaster commuter rail service, Oceanside-Escondido Sprinter diesel light rail, and Breeze buses, is honoring members of the U.S. military—active duty, veterans, and their dependents—from Nov. 9-12 by providing free transportation “to express the District’s gratitude to our local armed forces for their service to our country and the community.”

For NJT, equipment damage looms large

New York-area residents attempted some resumption of “normal” travel-to-work routine Monday, with varying degrees of success. But New Jersey residents may be deprived of adequate rail transit alternatives for far longer than their counterparts in New York State and Connecticut may expect, in large part due to damaged rolling stock and locomotives.
