Metrolinx sets Toronto RER options

GTA (Greater Toronto Area) region public transportation agency Metrolinx outlined the four options being considered for the core of the Toronto Regional Express Rail (RER) network at a board meeting on Feb. 10, 2016.

FTA sets FY2017 funding priorities

The Federal Transit Administration on Feb. 10, 2016 highlighted $3.5 billion recommended in President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2017 federal budget to advance the construction or completion of 31 public transit projects in 18 states, including 15 first-time funding recommendations. The projects would be funded through the FTA Capital Investment Grant (CIG) Program.

Duos Technologies lands railcar imaging system contract

A U.S. Class I railroad has awarded Duos Technologies Group, Inc. a contract for a Vehicle Undercarriage Examiner (vue™) imaging system. The name of the railroad was not disclosed.

Wi-Tronix forms customer strategy team

Wi-Tronix, LLC announced on Feb. 4, 2016 the formation of a new Customer Strategy department with Customer Care Manager roles. The team is being deployed in response to continued growth of Wi-Tronix’s customer base and to further engage and assist customers, the company says.

The race to finish PTC

2018 or 2020, whatever the case may be, isn’t very far off. According to a Positive Train Control implementation chart published on the Federal Railroad Administration website, 30 out 37 U.S. freight and passenger railroads required to have PTC—roughly 80%—will have the technology in place by the year-end 2018 extended deadline.

United Rail, BBR partner up

United Rail, Inc. announced on Jan. 6, 2016 a new partnership with German rail supply manufacturer, BBR Rail Automation GmbH (BBR), to represent and support its products and services to the North American freight and passenger rail transportation markets. United Rail will provide business development, sales and marketing, and engineering services support to BBR for the company’s work in North America.

Working within the up-to five-year extension Congress granted in late 2015, the Association of American Railroads has set year-end 2016 goals for Positive Train Control implementation.

RailComm to replace control system at Class I Buffalo yard

RailComm has been selected to replace an obsolete control system with its DOC® system at a Class I yard in Buffalo, N.Y., the company announced Jan. 11, 2016. The system will be an upgrade to a modern computer-based operation of the receiving sections of the facility.
