L.B. Foster’s wholly owned subsidiary, Salient Systems, Inc., achieved ISO 9001:2008 Certification in the second quarter of 2016. This facility engineers and manufactures remote infrastructure and vehicle monitoring devices and software for the global rail industry.

ARI reports second quarter results

American Railcar Industries, Inc. (ARI) reported in the second quarter 2016, decreased revenues in the manufacturing segment were partially offset by increased revenues in the railcar leasing and railcar services segments. Total consolidated revenues were $150.5 million for the second quarter of 2016, a decrease of 22% when compared to $192.0 million for the same period in 2015.

PTC, legacy train control and vitality

Steve Ditmeyer’s article “PTC vs. Legacy Train Control Redux” is very thought-provoking. Yes, Congress did define PTC by functionality, not technology. No, PTC need not be tied to fixed wayside block signals (interlockings are a whole other issue).

Amtrak awards Duos Technologies IPAWS CAP contract

Duos Technologies Group, Inc. (OTCQB: DUOT), has been awarded several contracts at an aggregate value of $230,000 to provide a Needs Assessment and GAP Analysis of Integrated Public Alert and Warning System Common Alerting Protocol (IPAWS CAP) capabilities at five Amtrak facilities throughout the U.S. that are representative of stations across the entire Amtrak system.

The title of Larry Light’s “PTC vs. Legacy Train Control” article in the June 2016 issue of Railway Age (full text follows this article) promised a balanced discussion of the differences between newer and older versions of train control. In reality, the article focused on why he believes that legacy train control systems need to be maintained.
