Railway Age announces winners of inaugural Fast Trackers contest

After nearly three months and 57 entries later, Railway Age editors, along with judges Nick Little, Managing Director of Michigan State University’s Railway Management Program and Ronald L. Batory, President and Chief Operating Officer of Consolidated Rail Corporation, have selected the winning 10 in Railway Age’s inaugural Fast Trackers—10 Under 40 contest.

ACSES fully operational on the NEC

Amtrak activated its final segment of ACSES (Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System), its version of Positive Train Control (PTC), along the Northeast Corridor on Dec. 18, 2015. ACSES is now fully functional on all Amtrak-owned track between Washington, D.C., and Boston, almost two weeks before the Congressionally imposed original deadline of Dec. 31, which has since been extended by three years.

Cubic launches Ventra mobile app for CTA, Metra and Pace

Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), a business unit of Cubic Corp., on Nov. 19, 2015 released the Ventra Mobile App for Chicago Transit Authority rapid transit, Metra regional/commuter rail and Pace suburban bus riders. The “one-stop” mobile app gives transit riders the ability to plan, manage and pay for their journeys for each of the region’s agencies.

Guelph Subdivision upgraded to CTC

VIA Rail on Nov. 14, 2015, commissioned CTC (centralized traffic control) on its entire North Mainline (Guelph Subdivision) between Georgetown and London, Ontario.

BNSF evaluating drones in New Mexico

BNSF has tested a UAS (unmanned aerial system, better-known as a drone) supplied by Boeing Co. subsidiary Insitu Inc. in east-central New Mexico, on approximately 132 miles of main line track.
