Sims Secures Virginia DPRT ‘Truck Diversion’ Grant

Sims Metals will receive a $750,000 grant to construct track access to its Chesapeake, Va.-based facility through the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation’s (DRPT) Rail Industrial Access Program, which “promotes truck diversion by providing grant assistance to connect new or expanding businesses to the freight railroad network.”

Virginia DRPT: Grant Applications Welcome

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) on Dec. 1 will begin accepting rail, transit, and commuter assistance grant applications for the 2026 Fiscal Year.

The Virginia CTB has approved new policies that change the way VRE is funded and reform from the governance and funding of WMATA.

Virginia CTB Approves New Rail Spur at Hershey Chocolate Facility

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) announced Jan. 18 that the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) has approved a $450,000 grant through the agency’s Rail Industrial Program to Hershey Chocolate of Virginia Inc. for construction of a new 4,750-foot rail spur to be served by Norfolk Southern (NS) at the snack company’s Augusta County facility.
