CN submits Milton Logistics Hub EIS

CN on Jan. 7, 2016 submitted its Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) for its proposed logistics hub/intermodal facility to be built in Milton, Ontario.

Guelph Subdivision upgraded to CTC

VIA Rail on Nov. 14, 2015, commissioned CTC (centralized traffic control) on its entire North Mainline (Guelph Subdivision) between Georgetown and London, Ontario.

Few obstacles bedevil railroads as has the Mississippi River. Spanning it was the nation’s first rail bridge in 1856—promptly assaulted by steamboat Effie Afton. While the bridge was repaired and more constructed, the river remains a problematic divide, separating, with few exceptions, eastern railroads from those operating in the West and producing grueling interchange bottlenecks at Chicago.

CN delivers solid third-quarter results

Net income of C$1.01 billion, compared with net income of C$853 million in second-quarter 2014, combined with an operating income increase of 16% and a record-low quarterly operating ratio of 53.8%, resulted in a solid third-quarter 2015 for CN, the railroad reported on Oct. 27, 2015.

CN’s Jobin takes helm during Mongeau’s medical leave

CN President and CEO Claude Mongeau will soon undergo surgery to remove a rare type of precancerous soft-tissue tumor located in the upper left part of his larynx, the railroad announced August 12, 2015. In his absence, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Luc Jobin will run the railroad.
