CP touts “best ever” first quarter

Canadian Pacific early Wednesday reported first-quarter net income of C$217 million, or C$1.24 per diluted share, up sharply from C$142 million, or 82 Canadian cents per share, in the first quarter of 2012—a 51% improvement in earnings per share. Earnings beat Wall Street consensus estimates of  C$1.21 per share for the quarter.

Transload facility to aid North Dakota rail moves

Dakota Plains Holdings, Inc. and a joint-venture partner, Petroleum Transport Solutions, LLC, said Friday construction is under way for the Pioneer Project, designed to expand crude oil transload capacity in New Town, N.D. Canadian Pacific will serve the facility.

CN, CP end litigation over Hunter Harrison

CN announced Monday that it had settled its differences with CP and its former CEO Hunter Harrison over Harrison’s joining CP as CEO. The announcement came as CN Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, Keith Creel, announced that that he will join CP as its president and chief operating officer.

Canadian Pacific Tuesday morning announced fourth-quarter diluted per share earnings of C$1.28, exclusive of “significant items,” up 15% from C$1.11 diluted per share earnings, also exclusive of such items, in the fourth quarter of 2011. The railroad called these earnings “solid.”

The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference-Maintenance of Way Employees Division (TCRC-MWED), representing 2,600 maintenance of way workers, and Canadian Pacific reached a tentative historic five-year contract settlement, CP announced Tuesday.
