North American nations score weekly traffic gains
Freight carload traffic and intermodal volume rose for the U.S., Canada, and Mexico during the week ending Aug. 4, 2012, the Association of American Railroads reported Thursday.

U.S. freight traffic trend reverts to 2012 norm
U.S. freight traffic for the week ending July 21, 2012 resumed its bifurcated trend for the year—a decline in freight carload volume, an increase in intermodal—the Association of American Railroads reported Thursday. U.S. freight carload volume for the week fell 1.9%, measured against the comparable week in 2011. U.S. intermodal volume, however, remained robust, up 6.2% for the week compared with a year ago.
Weekly traffic up throughout North America: AAR
Freight carload traffic volume and intermodal movements notched a North American trifecta in the week ending July 14, 2012, measured against the comparable week of 2011, the Association of American Railroads reported Thursday.
Ottawa LRT plan gets federal nod
Canada’s capital city on Monday said it “has received Federal Environmental Assessment approval for the Ottawa Light Rail Transit (OLRT) project.”

AAR says weekly rail traffic is mixed
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) Thursday reported mixed weekly rail traffic for the week ending July 7, 2012, with U.S. railroads originating 243,156 carloads, down 1% compared with the same week last year. Intermodal volume for the week totaled 203,362 trailers and containers, up 5.6% compared with the same week last year.
U.S. freight carload volume sluggish again
U.S. intermodal volume continued its torrid 2012 pace for the week ending June 30, but U.S. freight carload traffic resumed falling short of 2011 volume, the Association of American Railroads reported. U.S. freight carload volume fell 2.5% compared with the same week last year; U.S. intermodal volume advanced 7.0%.
Waterloo council makes “add-on” LRT order
Officials from Ontario’s Waterloo-Kitchener-Cambridge metropolitan area, southwest of Toronto, say they will place an add-on order with Bombardier Transportation for 14 light rail transit (LRT) vehicles to facilitate the region’s plans for LRT.
