Caltrain has released its draft environmental impact report for its planned electrification of right-of-way between San Francisco and San Jose, a distance of roughly 51 miles.
Caltrain said late Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, it had activated its real-time departure system, available in three locations on its website.
Caltrain said Thursday its staff offered a preliminary report to the Joint Powers Board indicating the rail service’s Fiscal Year 2014 budget will be balanced, but warning that FY15 could produce a budget shortfall that might trigger fare increases and service cuts.
Caltrain said Wednesday ridership in August rose 7.8% compared with the same month a year ago, up to 1.35 million riders from 1.25 million in August 2012, or roughly 3,000 more riders per day.
The California Transportation Commission has voted to release $39.8 million in allocations toward work to advance the Caltrain Modernization Program and prepare the rail corridor, which connects San Francisco with San Jose and Gilroy, for a future “blended” system with California High Speed Rail.
