Caltrain tackling “real jerk moves”

“Real jerk moves” have nothing to do with excessive slack action on Caltrain push-pull commuter trains. Rather, in the words of one customer, they have to do with certain passengers, well, acting like jerks—namely, putting personal bags on an empty seat, a not-so-subtle way of saying, “I need my space. Don’t sit next to me.”

At the Caltrain Board meeting on Feb. 4, 2016, Executive Director Jim Hartnett announced that Michael Burns, who retired as the Chief Executive Officer for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority in 2014, will take the reins of the Caltrain Modernization Program. The Caltrain Modernization Program is the most transformative project in the rail system’s 150-year history, the agency says. The program will electrify the system and provide electric vehicles to operate with the electrified infrastructure.

Caltrain approves fare hikes to meet rising costs of rail operations, maintenance

Caltrain’s Board of Directors approved on Dec. 3, 2015 an increase to the adult base fare by 50 cents, effective Feb. 28, 2016. As a result, the amount paid for the day pass, 8-ride tickets and monthly passes will increase. Eligible discount fares will remain at 50% of adult ticket prices, and Clipper cardholders will continue to get an approximate 15% discount, Caltrain says.
