Brightline locomotive rolls on Siemens test track

Brightline’s first Siemens Charger diesel-electric locomotive has successfully completed initial testing and operated for the first time, powered by its Cummins QSK95 diesel engine, on the quarter-mile test track at the Siemens manufacturing facility in Sacramento, Calif.

First precast beam erected at MiamiCentral

The first of 247 massive precast concrete beams (also known as Florida I Beams or FIBs) was lifted into place at MiamiCentral this week, as the 11-acre transportation hub that will host Brightline passenger trains continues to take shape in Downtown Miami. The beams average 73 feet in length, and the largest spans are in excess of 120 feet. Approximately four FIBs will be installed each day over the next eight to ten weeks.

Brightline gears up with first engine install

Brightline announced June 28 that it is celebrating another milestone in the building of its trainsets as it installed the Cummins prime-mover into its first diesel-electric Charger locomotive at the Siemens manufacturing facility in Sacramento, Calif. where the trainsets are being built.

Retractable bridge plates a first for Brightline

Brightline, the higher-speed intercity passenger rail service to be offered by Florida East Coast subsidiary All Aboard Florida, will be the first North American passenger trains equipped with retractable bridge plates for high-level boarding platforms.
