AAR: North American Rail Volume Up Through Week 31

North American carload and intermodal traffic for the first 31 weeks of 2025 (ending Aug. 2) was up 2.9% from the prior-year period, according to the Association of American Railroads’ (AAR) latest rail traffic report. While the United States and Canada both saw gains, Mexico experienced a loss.

SCFE Taps Starnes as Sales, Marketing, and Revenue Manager

Class III rail service provider South Central Florida Express (SCFE) on Aug. 5 announced that it has hired Chris Starnes as Sales, Marketing, and Revenue Manager. He will be responsible for “leading efforts to drive business development, expand the customer base, and elevate the value of SCFE’s rail services throughout the region.”

STB Issues EIS for Proposed Maverick County, Tex., Line (UPDATED 8/6)

The Surface Transportation Board’s (STB) Office of Environmental Analysis (OEA) on March 14 released a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Green Eagle Railroad’s (GER) proposed construction and operation of an approximately 1.335-mile rail line in Maverick County, Tex., extending from the southern border of the United States and connecting to Union Pacific (UP) at approximately milepost 31 on the Eagle Pass Subdivision. The Final EIS was released Aug. 6.

OmniTRAX: Exclusive Switching Partner for Tata Chemicals’ Wyoming Mine
