MBTA Board Approves FY25-29 Capital Investment Plan

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Board of Directors on June 11 unanimously approved the Fiscal Years 2025-2029 Capital Investment Plan (FY25-29 MBTA CIP), which includes more than 650 unique capital projects to “modernize, expand and increase the safety and reliability” of the MBTA transit network with a programmed spend of $9.6 billion over the next five fiscal years, including $843 million in new funding.

A U.S. Class I railroad has taken delivery of Rail Vision Ltd.’s monitoring and obstacle detection system for yards. Also, Wabtec Corporation’s Green Friction braking system will be deployed on RER A line trains operating in the Paris, France, metropolitan area.

Also, the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) plans to extend FrontRunner train service to Payson; the Detroit People Mover will receive new railcars from the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC); and Caltrain runs eight trains simultaneously on its newly completed corridor.

Louisiana Commits $230.5MM to Port NOLA Infrastructure Projects

A commitment of $230.5 million was made to the Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) for its Louisiana International Terminal (LIT), St. Bernard Transportation Corridor, and St. Claude Bridge projects by the Louisiana Legislature prior to its June 3 adjournment, according to Port NOLA.
