AAR: U.S. Rail Traffic Flat for Week 12

U.S. rail traffic for the week ending March 28, 2026 (Week 12) saw a slight uptick, the Association of American Railroads reported April 1. Volume totaled 515,921 carloads and intermodal units, up 0.5% from the same week last year, with intermodal gains partially offset by carload softness.

The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. and TTX Company March 31 joined the rail-industry-wide celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary by unveiling five custom-painted, U.S. flag-themed boxcars at Greenbrier’s Cleburne, Tex., maintenance facility.

STB Calculates Five-Year Change in Railroad Productivity

The Surface Transportation Board (STB) on March 31 presented its calculation for the change in railroad productivity for the 2020-24 averaging period. Comments are due by April 15.
