AAR: U.S. Rail Traffic Flat for Week 12

U.S. rail traffic for the week ending March 28, 2026 (Week 12) saw a slight uptick, the Association of American Railroads reported April 1. Volume totaled 515,921 carloads and intermodal units, up 0.5% from the same week last year, with intermodal gains partially offset by carload softness.

CSX’s 2025 Annual Report highlighted its reopening of Baltimore’s Howard Street Tunnel after a $450 million expansion (work pictured above) that cleared a long-standing bottleneck on the I-95 corridor and will enable double-stack intermodal service through Baltimore once remaining clearance work is completed in early 2026.
