Scoular Completes New Nebraska High-Speed Shuttle Loading Facility

Scoular, an employee-owned agribusiness, on Nov. 17 celebrated the completion of its new Grainton, Neb.-based high-speed shuttle loading facility, which will allow producers in southwest Nebraska to “have new markets for their grain, plus significantly faster unloading speeds and increased storage.”

BNSF Adds Four Certified Sites

Four locations on the BNSF network—one each in Kansas, Washington, Nebraska and Wyoming—have been designated as Certified Sites, part of the railroad’s Premier Parks, Sites and Transload program, bringing the total to 33.

Watch: BNSF Completes Willmar Bypass

​​“And now I can retire,” Randy Anderson, a BNSF locomotive engineer based in Sioux City, Iowa, said recently. “For years I have said that as soon as the bypass is complete, I’m hanging up my boots. The new bypass allows train crews to keep on moving through this area. It’s a really good thing and will continue to benefit the railroad and community for years to come.”

Of BNSF’s business groups, Agricultural Products was the only one to post a volume increase in third-quarter 2022. Ag volumes were up 4% “due to higher domestic grain shipments and increased renewable diesel and oil feedstock shipments,” the railroad reported on Nov. 7.

BNSF 3Q22: Earnings Down Based on Lower Volumes, Higher Operating Costs

BNSF’s after-tax earnings declined 6% in third-quarter 2022 and rose 4% in the first nine months of the year vs. the same periods last year, reflecting higher revenue per car/unit, lower overall freight volumes, and higher fuel and other operating costs, according to parent company Berkshire Hathaway.
