STB Seeks More Details on Proposed Maverick County, Tex., Line

The Surface Transportation Board (STB) on Jan. 30 directed Green Eagle Railroad (GER) to provide more information on its proposed construction and operation of a 1.335-mile, double-tracked common carrier rail line in Maverick County, Tex. The line would extend from the U.S.-Mexico border to connect at about milepost 31 of Union Pacific’s (UP) Eagle Pass Subdivision. The goal: to meet transportation demands.

NTSB Determines Probable Cause for BNSF M/w Employee Fatality

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released the final report for its investigation of the Nov. 4,  2024, accident involving a BNSF maintenance-of-way (m/w) employee who was fatally struck by a BNSF freight train while driving a welding truck across a highway/rail grade crossing near New Rockford, N.Dak.

For BNSF, a $3.6B Capital Plan

BNSF on Jan. 26 announced a $3.6 billion capital plan for 2026 that devotes $2.8 billion to maintenance and $358 million to “expansion and efficiency” projects.

Port of Long Beach, Calif., (POLB) sets a cargo record in 2025 and expects 2026 to be “another busy year shaped by changes in trade policies, tariff normalization and shifts in manufacturing sourcing.” Also, South Carolina Ports’ (SC Ports) Inland Port Dillon posts record rail moves in 2025.
