Bentley Systems, Inc.’s annual Year in Infrastructure Awards honors the work of Bentley customers advancing infrastructure design, construction, and operations throughout the world. For the 2018 awards, 12 independent jury panels of industry experts selected 57 finalists from 420 nominations submitted by more than 340 Bentley customers.
In a Bentley Systems On-Demand Tech Talk, rail and transit expert Taylor Gilmore discusses how Bentley’s OpenRail Asset Reliability Transit Facility Condition Assessment tools can help transit agencies achieve a state of good repair (SGR) and comply with the Federal Transit Administration’s Transit Facility Condition Assessment requirements.
Bentley Systems’ OpenRail ConceptStation allows users to “conceptualize and analyze design options for rail and transit in a matter of minutes, not days. Rapidly create conceptual track designs, including rail geometry, electrification, tunnels, and bridges, while ensuring design principles.”
Bentley Systems Inc. has acquired London-based Synchro Software Ltd., a developer of 4D construction modeling software for scheduling and project management. Synchro, known as “construction’s time machine,” has been globally adopted, in particular, for building and civil infrastructure projects.
Bentley Systems has received one of 39 2018 Microsoft CityNext Partner of the Year awards “for demonstrating excellence in innovation and implementation of user solutions based on Microsoft technology.” There were more than 2,600 entrants from 115 countries.
Since up to 25% of annual railroad budgets are dedicated to maintenance-of-way, rail operators know that “optimal network system performance is dependent upon effective use of accurate, consolidated and up-to-date asset information,” says Bentley Solutions Executive-Rail and Transit Andrew Smith, host of a webinar on “the challenges that exist in managing rail information.”

Bentley Systems Inc, has made two acquisitions in the geotechnical software field: Plaxis and SoilVision.
Bentley Systems’ AssetWise Operational Analytics platform affords users the opportunity “to quickly assess every dimension of railway infrastructure and its condition over time,” the company says. “Assess and learn from past maintenance activities. Make better decisions about track and other m/w assetts. Determine what work needs to be done and where, and predict when it should be done.”
Bentley Systems’ Rail Predictive Maintenance platform “enables railways to understand rail asset condition to improve maintenance decisions, predict asset deterioration to help optimize maintenance schedules, and allows to access to data wherever it adds the most value, in the office or on site,” the company says.
