Congress Eyes 45G Update

Both houses of Congress on Sept. 10 introduced bills that would improve the railroad track maintenance credit—also known as the 45G tax credit, referring to its section in the U.S. tax code—that has been “a powerful incentive for short lines to put more of their own funds to work upgrading track and bridges to modern standards,” according to the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA).

ASLRRA Briefs: Safety Seminar Wrap-Up, Training Template Available

The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) presents the Railroad Accidents/Incidents (Part 225) education seminar to a sold-out crowd; spots are still open for its final training seminar of 2024. Also, the Safety and Training Committee develops a new template to teach contractors host-railroad specific rules.

Coalition to House: Reject Bigger Truck Proposals

A 20-member coalition, including the Association of American Railroads (AAR), American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) and Railway Supply Institute (RSI), is calling on House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) to “reject any legislative language that would increase current maximum truck weight or length limits, including proposals that would allow for a 91,000-pound federal interstate truck weight limit in H.R. 3372.”
