Nominations sought for Railway Age 2013 Shortline/Regional Railroad of the Year

Railway Age is now accepting entries for its annual Short Line/Regional Railroad of the Year competition. Short lines and regionals—and there are more than 500 of them—are invited to submit entries describing outstanding achievement in one or a combination of areas.

ASLRRA: 51 Senate cosponsors for tax credit

The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) Friday said it had reached a major milestone “by securing the 51st Senate co-sponsor of legislation to extend the short line rehabilitation tax credit (45G). The legislation has now been sponsored by a majority of both Houses of Congress.”

Rail industry goal: 5,000 jobs for vets this year

The freight railroads, intercity passenger and commuter railroads, and 
rail supply companies of the United States expect to hire more than 5,000
 veterans in 2012.
