APTA: Rail powers 3Q transit ridership gains

More than 2.7 billion trips were taken on U.S. public transportation in the third quarter of 2014, up 1.8% from the comparable quarter in 2013, according American Public Transportation Association (APTA), releasing a report Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014. Rail transit ridership was a driving factor.

San Francisco taps Brookville for PCC rebuilds

Brookville Equipment Corp. said Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014 it and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) have agreed to terms “for the rebuild of 16 Presidents’ Conference Committee (PCC) streetcars, adding a minimum of 20 years of service life to the historic vehicles in a contract valued at nearly $34.5 million.”

APTA calls for $100 billion in transit investment

At its 
2014 Legislative Conference, the American Public Transportation Association
(APTA) released its recommendations for authorization of the transportation 
bill that is set to expire at the end of September. The APTA plan calls on 
Congress to authorize a $100.4 billion federal transit program over six 
years, which would grow the current $10.7 billion annual program to $22.2 
billion by 2020.
