Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) adds another heritage locomotive to its fleet, paying tribute to the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad. Also, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s PATH rapid transit system in 2025 surpassed 60 million riders for the first time since 2019; and Amtrak highlights “strong performance” and 2026 priorities at its recent public Board meeting.
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA/Metro) and Kawasaki Rail Car, Inc. (KRC) resolve their 7000-Series railcars disputes. Also, a new North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) study confirms that restoring Salisbury-to-Asheville passenger rail service would benefit the economy, job opportunities, and public transit in the area and the state; and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) advances the Scranton-to-New York Penn Station Passenger Rail Corridor project.

Metro-North Railroad and Amtrak on Oct. 20 announced that New York State has secured a series of improvements to rail service on the Empire State Corridor between Albany and New York City.
