Former Norfolk Southern senior executive James W. “Jim” McClellan, who played a significant role in shaping the structure of the modern North American railroad industry, died Oct. 14, 2016. He was 77.

Amtrak launches PIDS at NY Penn

Amtrak announced Oct. 11 the launch of a new, state-of-the-art Passenger Information Display System (PIDS) at Penn Station New York. The new PIDS communicates train status, origin and destination stations, boarding gate and other information and features bright, new LCD displays that are easier to read and synchronize audio and visual messaging in the station.

Amtrak HR VP wins HR Executive of the Year

Barry Melnkovic, Amtrak Executive Vice President, Chief Human Capital Officer, was named the 2016 HR Executive of the Year by Human Resource Executive magazine. The award recognizes leaders who have made outstanding contributions to their organizations and who exemplify the increasingly strategic role in human resources in business today.

Take your bike to the train: Amtrak

With the arrival of long-awaited new baggage cars from CAF USA, Amtrak has expanded its trainside checked bicycle service to several long-distance trains as well as Northeast Regional trains with baggage service. The service is available at staffed stations that offer checked baggage.
